Fahima Durrat
Interpreter and Translator, Bangladesh, 2011
Fahima Durrat recently graduated from Dhaka University with her masters degree in international relations. She speaks Bengali, and English. She currently works as a copy editor for New Age, a newspaper in Dhaka. The CLP's Born in Bangladesh project would not have been possible without Fahima's tireless interpreting, and support.
Ali Guche
Interpreter, Ethiopia, 2008
Ali Guche, 25, is a student and guide in Yabello Town in the Borena Zone of southern Ethiopia and in the southern Omo Valley. When he finishes his education, he would like to learn to speak Kiswahili and Spanish, and to work as a guide for East Africa. First, he would like to continue learning English, which he studies by listening to the New Dynamic English Voice of America Special English Program. Seikh Jabir
Interpreter, India, 2006
Jabir, age 22, is from the state of Orissa in southern India. He runs his own Cyber Cafe and travel agency in the city of Puri, and hopes to become a full time guide and interpreter in the future. Jabir speaks seven languages including English, Japanese, Arabic, Oriya and Hindi. He is a great person to contact if you will be travelling to Orissa. The CLP's reporting from Chhannijanga would not have been possible without Jabir's help.
Ali Jaffri
Interpreter, Pakistan, 2006 and 2009
Ali graduated with a degree in history from Karachi University. He has travelled all over the world and is thinking of becoming a journalist. He currently works in a call center, and offered his invaluable help in our reporting for Twenty-First Century Slavery. If you are in need of an interpreter in Lahore, Ali is a great man to contact!
Faris Kasim
Interpreter, Pakistan, 2009
Faris works for the Indus Resource Center, a nonprofit organization working for the development of rural communities in Pakistan. He holds a Bachelors in Business Administration and is currently pursuing a Masters in International Relations from Karachi University. Involved with the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, People's Resistance and other local citizen groups in Pakistan, Faris is also a regular contributor to 'The News', 'Frontier Post', 'Daily News' and the e-zines 'Chowk' and 'The Green Kaleidoscope'. Faris made an immeasurable contribution to the Pakistan: Hearts and Minds project.
Marazaev "Max" Maksat
Interpreter, Kyrgyzstan, 2006
Max recently graduated from the Foreign Language Faculty in Osh, Kyrgyzstan. He speaks Kyrgyz, Russian, Uzbek, English, German and Turkish. He loves foreign languages and hopes to become a diplomat. Max is from a small village two hours outside of Osh and plans to get married next year. The CLP's Osh-based reporting for The Tulip Revolution: One Year Later would not have been possible without Max's help.
Kang Sinin
Interpreter and Translator, Cambodia, 2006
Born in Siem Reap City, Sinin, 22, was orphaned by the age of ten when both of his parents died of disease. Having spent most of his life on the street he is now a self-made entrepreneur with a CD/DVD burning business and is studying economics at university. Our award-winning feature, Dismantling a Dangerous Past would not have been possible without his diligent translation and knowledge of Cambodian culture and history.
